Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple — Overview
Discover the monumental legacy of ancient Thebes on the East Bank of Luxor. This private half-day tour explores the two most important religious sanctuaries of the New Kingdom: the sprawling Karnak Temple complex and the beautifully preserved Luxor Temple, connected by the legendary Avenue of Sphinxes.
Begin your journey at Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex ever constructed. Built over 2,000 years by generations of pharaohs, it is a city of temples dedicated to the Theban triad. Wander through the breathtaking Great Hypostyle Hall, a forest of 134 massive sandstone columns towering into the sky, and marvel at the towering obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and Thutmose I.
Continue to Luxor Temple, situated right in the heart of the modern city. Built primarily by Amenhotep III and Ramses II, this elegant temple was the center of the Opet Festival. Admire the colossal statues of Ramses II flanking the entrance, the intricate wall reliefs, and the unique blending of Pharaonic, Roman, and Islamic history layered throughout the site.
